As Chair of the Phospholipids Working Group, responsible for delivering a presentation on the analysis of phospholipids in infant formula and adult nutritionals and leading the working group in the development of the Phospholipids SMPR.
Paper accepted for publication entitled "Quantitation of Vitamin K in Milk Products by Pre-column Reduction HPLC–Fluorescence" to be published in Food Analytical methods. This study presents a single-laboratory validation of a pre-column reduction modification that provides enhanced sensitivity (> 2×) and increased analytical throughput.
A paper accepted for publication entitled "Determination of aflatoxin M1 in liquid milk, cheese, and selected milk proteins by automated online immunoaffinity cleanup with liquid chromatography‒fluorescence detection" to be published in the Journal of AOAC International. This paper discusses the development of a high-throughput, routine testing of AFM1 using RIDA®CREST IMMUNOPREP® online cartridges followed by quantitation by HPLC-fluorescence.
Another paper accepted for publication entitled "Colorimetry of dairy products" to be published in the International Dairy Journal. This paper discusses the use of a colorimeter to measure the colour of various dairy products instead of the human eye with comparison to reference colour charts.
I gave presentation on chiral chromatographic analysis of α‑tocopherol at the Wiley award symposium. This was a given as a recorded presentation since the AOAC Annual Meeting was a virtual one given the Covid‑19 pandemic. The recording process went well and I was pleased at how the talk went. The downside of this approach is not getting feed-back compared to a live presentation.
Due to Covid‑19 the 134th AOAC Annual Meeting will be a virtual one instead of meeting in Orlando, Fl. This seems the best solution to avoid spreading the virus. All of the symposia are pre-recorded for broadcast and the meetings will be held live but remotely. I am disappointed as I was looking forward to catching up with friends and colleagues as well as spending some free time visit Disneyworld.
Paper accepted for publication entitled "Challenge to evaluate regulatory compliance for nutrients in infant formulas with current state-of-the-art analytical reference methods" to be published in the Food Control. Many thanks to lead-author Erik Konings for preparing the first draft of this paper and handling the edits and reviews.
Chair-elect for Editorial Board of the Journal of AOAC International
The editorial board of the Journal of AOAC International has elected me for their next chair for the term 2020–2023. My term as chair will commence in October. The role of the editorial board is "to foster the highest standards scientific integrity and maintain the Association’s reputation as a globally leading source for scientific information in the areas of food safety, food integrity, and public health". With lots of recent changes in the publication of the journal, there's a lot of work for the board to complete over the next term.
Paper accepted for publication entitled "Comparison of LC-MS/MS and enzymatic methods for the determination of total choline and total carnitine in infant formula and milk products" to be published in the Journal of AOAC International. This paper discusses a validation study which confirms that alternative enzymatic assays can be used with confidence in laboratories in which LC-MS/MS platforms are unavailable.
Paper accepted for publication entitled "Separation of RRR-α-tocopherol by chiral chromatography" to be published in the Journal of AOAC International. This paper describes the successful development of a chromatographic method utilizing a chiral column for the chromatographic separation of RRR-α-tocopherol from other α‑tocopherol stereoisomers.
