Paper accepted for publication entitled "Analysis of nucleosides and nucleotides in infant formula by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry" to be published in Analytical Bioanalytical Chemistry. This paper describes the development and validation of a method for the simultaneous analysis of nucleosides and nucleotides in infant formula using reversed phase liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.
SPIFAN meetings at AOAC Mid-Year Meeting—Rockville, MD, USA
Attended the 7th stakeholder meeting of AOAC Stakeholder Panel on Infant Formula and Adult Nutrition (SPIFAN) and the Expert Review Panel (ERP) to discuss the current developments in methods of analysis for infant formula and reviewing and developing standards for global acceptance.
The LC-UV method developed for the analysis of nucleotides in infant formula I developed was endorsed by SPIFAN Expert Review Panel as an Official First Action method (AOAC 2011.20).
AOAC Annual Meeting & Conference—Las Vegas, NV, USA
I attended the 126th AOAC Annual Meeting in Las Vegas. I attended the 6th stakeholder meeting of AOAC Stakeholder Panel on Infant Formula and Adult Nutrition (SPIFAN) and the Expert Review Panel (ERP) to discuss the current developments in methods of analysis for infant formula and reviewing and developing standards for global acceptance. The nucleotides method I developed was endorsed by SPIFAN Expert Review Panel as an Official Final Action Method (AOAC 2011.20).
Many are fans of Las Vegas, but I can't say I'm one of them. It was attractive place for a night or two, but longer than that, the smoking, the incessant casino noises make this one of the least interesting places to visit.
Attended the 5th stakeholder meeting of AOAC Stakeholder Panel on Infant Formula and Adult Nutrition (SPIFAN) and the Expert Review Panel (ERP) to discuss the current developments in methods of analysis for infant formula and reviewing and developing standards for global acceptance.
Visited two mass spectrometer instrument manufacturers to assess the equipment in person prior to purchasing. I'm fascinated at how these complex instruments are developed and manufactured. The engineering specifications and tolerances are extremely tight.
Spent a day in San Francisco. I love this city, the food is almost as good as New Orleans, and the Golden Gate Bridge is best seen on bike ride across.
Visited several mass spectrometer instrument manufacturers to assess the equipment in person prior to purchasing. There are some great instruments available, and I wish I could buy them all!
Took opportunity to see the sights in Sydney and had a great dinner on the Rocks. Walking in centre of Melbourne during evening was pleasant with classical music piped through whole park.
Paper accepted for publication entitled "Analysis of 5′‑mononucleotides in infant formula and adult/pediatric nutritional formula by liquid chromatography: First Action 2011.20" to be published in Journal of AOAC International. This paper is the Official Method also published in AOAC Official Methods of Analysis.
Paper accepted for publication entitled "Determination of total potentially available nucleosides in bovine, caprine, and ovine milk" to be published in the International Dairy Journal. This paper reports the total potentially available nucleosides in bovine, caprine, and ovine milk analyzed through the sequential application of phosphatase, pyrophosphatase, and nuclease enzyme treatments prior to high performance liquid chromatographic analysis of released nucleosides.
AOAC Annual Meeting & Conference—New Orleans, LA, USA
I attended the 125th AOAC Annual Meeting in New Orleans. I attended the 4th stakeholder meeting of AOAC Stakeholder Panel on Infant Formula and Adult Nutrition (SPIFAN) and the Expert Review Panel (ERP) to discuss the current developments in methods of analysis for infant formula and reviewing and developing standards for global acceptance. The nucleotides method I developed was endorsed by SPIFAN Expert Review Panel as an Official Final Action Method (AOAC 2011.20).
I found New Orleans to be a unique city amongst places I have visited in America. The music and culture a quite different from elsewhere and the food was magnificent. I would rate New Orleans as my top food destination in America.
6th International Symposium on MS Techniques—Manchester, England
Attended the 6th International Symposium on MS Techniques and heard the latest work from some of the scientists using mass spectrometry in a range of disciplines.
